About the event

Aye Obinrin, meaning "Life of the Woman" in Yoruba, is a multidisciplinary artistic project that examines the lived experiences of African women from their resilience, everyday struggles, and triumphs. Through a fusion of contemporary and traditional African dances, Aye Obinrin highlights the silent battles women fight daily, while celebrating their leadership, strength, and ability to transform adversity into inspiration.


This project is inspired by the expressive storytelling of Germaine Acogny, the mother of contemporary African dance, and the feminist-driven, installations of Judy Chicago. This project merges movement, imagery, and narrative to create a thought-provoking, immersive experience. Just as Acogny redefines African identity through the body and Chicago reclaims the space for female narratives in art, Aye Obinrin seeks to amplify women's unheard voices, in this patriarchal societies.
